My son has become obsessed with his hair.
Now, some of you may know I am the mother of three girls... and I've had hair all my life. But I've never known such hair business as we now have in this house. Even bearing in mind that my middle dd spent 3 years training at hair and beauty college, and the youngest was an apprentice in a trendy salon when she first left school.
But Vin turned 14 this year, and this boy, who until now has never bothered even slightly with his appearance - other than to ask does he look disrespectful enough before school :-) - has suddenly got his heart set on a hair style known as Emo. He wants that long floppy fringe hanging over his eye, and yeah, I guess it would go with his clothes and his style and his look, but as far as his hair is concerned he can forget it. His mop doesn't want to play.
He gels, waxes, sprays, and stretches ... He even let me loose with my straighteners last week.... but try telling his hair it would look good hanging down - it just doesn't wanna go there!
Ordinarily his hair grows like lightening... I'm forever cutting it. But from the second he decided he wanted it long... it's like...nothing. Nada, zilch, zero. Not a millimetre has it moved.
Meanwhile I am driven to distraction with the incessant questions... "Mum, do you think it's getting any longer? Do you think it's growing?" And the angry scenes in the morning mirror when it won't go where it's supposed to....
Please come back girls - all is forgiven. Really!
